A busy week all around with May being #CleanSweepArc reading
followed with Saturday's National Readathon 2016
and the Clean Sweep Readathon with mini challenges
- both were 24 hrs on May 21st.
In the process, I discovered a new to me challenge I had to join - Book Blog Discussions
at Nicole's Feed Your Fiction Addiction
{just in case anyone else feels the need.}

During the week,
a friend was clearing a perennial bed which gave me
an afternoon out to deliver them to their new homes
in my children's gardens,
two library trips to pickup book reserves I'd been anticipating,
and now enjoying gorgeous weather
for this Victoria Day long weekend
through to ending of Monday with fireworks.

As to reading?

Excellent audio listen to Susan Meissner's latest.
Hollywood's golden movie era, filming Gone with the Wind,
as the lives of two secretaries and wardrobe intertwine
both on and off the compound...  Loved it!
Narration dramatised the characters and era incredibly well
increasing interest and depth to the story itself.

BRIDE OF A DISTANT ISLE, another brand new release-
this one being historical and 2nd of
the Daughters of Hampshire series.
Gripping suspense, Sandra Byrd's exceptional storytelling held me from opening to ending.  See Book Beginnings post for
an example of the book's opening intrigue...

A 2nd in Waves of Freedom series, this WWII novel,
also featuring a theme of suspense. A new and female pharmacist notices repeated large prescriptions
for an addicting sedative.  Her concerns match the behaviour
reported aboard the destroyer where her brother and friend are assigned. The suspense intensifies to some frightful outcomes.
My stomach is clenching just remembering. Released May 3rd.

Next, an audio that had intimidated for too long.

Don’t tell me it’s terrifying. Terrify me.

Filled with grief, Juliet Belleno rarely leaves the house since her husband’s death while on duty as a police officer. Other than the reviews Jules writes on her blog, she has little contact with the outside world.

But one day when she ventures out to the local grocery store, Jules bumps into a fellow customer . . . then recognizes him as her favorite author, Patrick Reagan.

And that’s the last thing she remembers — until she wakes up in a strange room with a splitting headache. Jules realizes she’s been kidnapped . . . but what she discovers about her abductor will change everything she believed about her husband’s death, her career, and her abductor.

Riveting would be one word to describe this listen.
It was exactly what I expected - plus.  Definitely well done.

You've got a TON of great reading! And and extra a day to do it :) Love the vintage bookmark great find! I always flip through old books at the thrift store hoping someone's left an old bookmark. I get lots of slips of paper though.

I'll definitely listen to the Susan Meissner book at some point, I loved the one I did listen to written by her. Good luck with the discussion challenge.

Illuminating the way looks like an interesting and beautiful book to savor. You have some great picks this week. Enjoy!

I'm so happy you enjoyed Northanger Abbey! It is a personal favorite--an Austen guilty pleasure?--for me. Catherine Morland is delightful even if naive; and Henry Tilney and his sister end up being just the people she hopes they could be.

Bride of a Distant Isle is definitely on my list for reading sooner rather than later!
Thanks for sharing your reading life!

I love it when you pick up a book with low expectations and it ends up blowing you away!
